Auriga, the Charioteer

img

Meaning “the Charioteer,” Auriga is named after its resemblance to a charioteer’s pointed helmet shape. It is located at the point opposite the Milky Way Galaxy center, also known as the galactic anti-center. Auriga is in the Perseus family of constellations, also home to constellations such as Perseus, Pegasus, Cepheus, and Cassiopeia.

This constellation contains the 6th brightest star in the sky, Capella. More broadly, however, Auriga has ten officially named stars: Almaaz, Capella, Haedus, Hassaleh, Lucilinburhuc, Mahasim, Menkalinan, Nervia, Saclateni, and Tevel.
