Camelopardalis, the Giraffe
Meaning “camel-leopard” in Greek, Camelopardalis was only
documented in the 17th century by a German astronomer named
Jakob Bartsch, unlike many other constellations established
in the 2nd century. As the 18th largest constellation in
the sky with an area of 757 square degrees, Camelopardalis
belongs to the Ursa Major family of constellations.
Despite its large size, Camelopardalis has only two
formally named stars: Mago and Tonatiuh.
