Canis Major, the Greater Dog
Belonging to the Orion family of Constellations, Canis
Major means “the greater dog” in Latin. Canis Major
represents the larger of Orion’s two dogs, the other
being Canis Minor. This constellation is also home to
Sirius, also known as the Dog Star, the brightest star
in the sky.
While there are no meteor showers associated with this
constellation, Canis Major has ten officially named
stars: Adhara, Aludra, Amadioha, Atakoraka, Furud,
Mirzam, Muliphein, Sirius, Unurgunite, and Wezen.
