Delphinus, the Dolphin

img

Meaning “the dolphin” in Latin, Delphinus represents the dolphin that Poseidon had sent to find Amphitrite, the woman he wished to marry. This constellation is also one of the smallest in the sky, spanning only 189 square degrees.

Delphinus contains only five formally named stars: Aldulfin (Epsilon Delphini), Musica (18 Delphini), Rotanev (Beta Delphini A), Shama (HAT-P-23), and Sualocin (Alpha Delphini Aa).
