Monoceros, the Unicorn

img

Meaning “unicorn” in Latin, Monoceros is a faint constellation lying in the Northern sky. Unlike most constellations found in the 2nd century, Monoceros was only introduced and cataloged in the 17th century by the Dutch astronomer and cartographer Petrus Plancius.

The constellation Monoceros contains only two formally named stars despite the constellation’s rather average size. They are respectively called Citalá and Lusitânia.
