Sirius, the Dog Star
Apart of the constellation Canis Major, Sirius is the
brightest star in the sky and the closest star to Earth
other than the Sun. Also known as the rainbow star to
some, Sirius changes hue as it flickers across the sky.
While this occurs with other stars as well, this is very
noticeable due to Sirius’s brightness. This star is
significant, starting with the Ancient Egyptians who
associated it with the god Osiris. The star would rise
just before the Sun before the flooding of the Nile,
which brought new life and death to Egypt.
